My vote would be for Jess if you are even thinking about her. I love her and the thing is...when she's gone, she's gone unless you pay inflated ebay prices. If you decide after you get her that you would rather have a different doll, you can sell her for at least as much if not more after she is retired. I can't imagine selling mine, though.

If Jess doesn't attract you, why is she on your list?

Tough choice between Jess and Emily.
If you have an urge to get Jess go ahead and get her while the gettin's good. If you wait to get her after she retires I agree you'll have to pay an arm and a leg.

I suggest you give yourself some time to make the decision. Then spend about a week thinking about each possible doll. Take a catalog and cut out pictures of each doll you are thinking about.
For one week, concentrate on your pictures of Kaya. Get Kaya books from the library, look at Kaya pictures online (AG and here). Imagine Kaya is your doll. How does that feel? Imagine not getting any of the others on your list, how does that feel?
Then move on to the next. You might even keep a list of what you like about each doll during that doll's weeks. After you've gone through your whole list you may find you have answered your own question clearly, or at least narrowed the field.
If you love Jess, get her now while she is $87. However, if you are thinking about Jess simply because she is LE and there are other dolls you like more, than Jess is probably not the doll for you. It is easy to get caught up in the idea that she is LE and feel a little panic about getting her now while you can. If you are collecting the LE dolls, get her. If you think she is too cute to resist and she's calling to you, get her. But if it is just the marketing-- just that she is LE-- think about that before you buy. If there is another doll you truly love, go for that one instead.
I have Jess. I love Jess. I am NOT knocking Jess. But I get the feeling you're not going to be able to have every doll on your list so you need to make sure you get the doll you really want, the one that really speaks to you.
Let us know what you decide!

This is a very hard decision I'm sure because all of the dolls on your list are so lovely. I would most likely wait and see if there are any new JLY's in Sept and then revise the list from that point. I think the idea of reading the historicals books first is an excellent one--perhaps one personality will really captivate you and then your decision will be easy.
I have Jess too and I debated quite a bit before getting her. She is a very nice doll but if she isn't calling to you I'd listen to that instinct. I also agree that you could get her now and always sell her later if she just doesn't fit into your doll family later.
Let us know what you decide!
